Pain In My Head – Relief for Headaches

Since yesterday morning I've had flashing lights in front of my eyes (first my left then my right too), and had a headache, but it wasn't like the migraine I normally get, and the flashing lights aren't like that normally either (blotchy and really distracting/obscuring to my vision). I went to the hospital last night because the lights do not seem normal, and it's better to be safe than sorry - the doctor said it was a mix of dehydration, migraine and general being ill (I've had a cold the past few days with fever, cough etc).
The lights are still here, and I've just woke up to find myself with a headache and feeling sick. What is all this? Is it just some sort of very long lasting, less intense migraine or something else?
Not really.. in my left eye, it's more like 2 blotches that allow me to see them if I look at a lightish background, or if I'm in a light room. In my right eye, it's just one small blotch. They also turn dark if, for example, I look at the sky.
