What is spinal dermal sinus' treatment, is it serious?

a friend of mine has been living abroad 'Spinal dermal sinus and wanted to know how bad it is, but there is little information on the web about it. Can you do permanent damage? They have had the surgery, but did not work, what happens now? thanks
