How To Relieve Headaches

How to deal with these horrible headaches?!?

I know that Tylenol is safe for pregnancy, but does not seem to do anything for me. I am 13 weeks along and the headaches have just begun in the last two weeks. Is there anything else you did to help relieve headaches? I seem to get sharp pain right at the temples and eyes.

Wow I hear mom. I am a few days to 12 weeks and I'm in the same position as you. Nothing helps me. Volume 2 Tylenol and doesn't move. The only consolation I have is laying down and relaxing. Hopefully it will pass soon for us! Good luck!

$5.99

An essential survival guide for parents whose children suffer with persistent and often debilitating pain Approximately ten million children are living with chronic pain. Most people would be surprised at such numbers, but for the parents of these children, the challenge of helping a pain-stricken child live a normal life is a frightening and frustrating reality. Chronic pain in children can manifest as abdominal, migraine, or facial pain. It also stems from a wide variety of disorders such as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, and childhood cancers. No matter what type of chronic pain the child suffers with, a parent must be armed with an understanding of how a child's expression and experience of pain differs from an adult's. Trained in pediatric anesthesia and intensive care at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Elliot Krane has devoted his entire professional life to refining and innovating techniques, strategies, and therapies to relieve the suffering of children with pain. In his book, Relieve Your Child's Chronic Pain, parents will find the information and tools they need to get the very best care for their child. It will help you: Recognize, measure, and evaluate your child's pain properly Learn about the many alternative pain-management approaches that can be used at home Dispel fears about addiction if your child is prescribed a narcotic Find an appropriate pain-management clinic for your child Reduce the stress and anxiety in the home in a way that benefits the entire family You may not always be able to eliminate chronic pain entirely, but you can succeed in minimizing your child's suffering.

Headache: Through the Centuries illuminates the history of headaches with a particular interest in how the disorder has been understood and treated since the earliest recorded accounts, dating from around 4000 BC. Different types of headache were being recognized as early as the 2nd century AD. Over the years, though, the classification of types of headache has changed so that headache patterns described in the past are often difficult to relate to present-day types of headache. Since that time, a great deal of material on the topic has become available, the full gamut of manifestations of the disorder has been described, and considerable insight into its mechanisms has been obtained, though no completely satisfactory explanation of the disorder has yet become available. Providing an extensive history and the development of our understanding of headache over the course of six millennia, Headache: Through the Centuries is thought-provoking and relevant reading for neurologists, medical historians, and anyone interested in headaches.

Can Botox Be Good For Relieving Headaches?

Have you read about people using Botox for headaches? There are many arguments for and against using Botox to relieve people from headache pain. Read on to learn a bit more about this issue.

The botulin toxin a.k.a. Botox has been used for several years now. It's used to remove wrinkles and lines for a short period of time, several months, by simply injecting it in specific areas, such as forehead, temples, etc. Its results are immediate.

How does it work?

When Botox is injected into the muscle, it actually paralyzes it by preventing the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, the responsible for the muscles' contractions. Therefore, wrinkles disappear and the result is a younger, fresher look. And the best thing about Botox is that it's easy and fast to apply, one session is enough to get good results and it takes about an hour to be applied by the physician.

A recently discovered side effect has been the gradual alleviation of tension headaches that many patients were suffering. Those patients who underwent several sessions noticed how their headaches were disappearing and, although doctors were reluctant to accept it at first, then they came to the conclusion that since Botox relaxes and paralyzes muscles, the injections were relaxing the muscles of the neck and jaws.

The word spread quickly, and people have been asking for Botox injections to treat their headaches for a long time now. Although it was not initially intended for treating headaches, doctors are applying it to patients who need to treat their headaches.

Advantages and disadvantages of using Botox for headaches

Applying Botox for treating headaches can have some nasty effects if it's administered by a doctor with little experience in using Botox for headaches, such as droopy eyelids. On the other hand, unlike most Headache Medicine, Botox does not produce drowsiness or dizziness. Remember that the injection goes directly into the muscle, and it does not enter the blood stream.

Helpful Tips

Botox is FDA approved, but only a doctor can apply it, and if you want to use it for your headaches, you'll need to see your general physician before going to a plastic surgeon for a Botox injection. You need to find out the cause for your headaches first. Besides, Botox is not cheap, and you need to consider if your headaches are worthy an expensive Botox injection. But the good thing is, Botox has virtually no side effects, as its use for erasing wrinkles has proved for years.
