Help For Medication is Available
The modern fiscal recession has affected several patient's capacity to pay for their prescription medicine. Help with prescription medicine is available. Some prescription medicine companies are responding with better prescription medicine relief. Merck, which manufacturers Singulair for asthma, Januvia for diabetes and Fosamax for osteoporosis, increased the amount of total annual income a family can earn and nonetheless meet the criteria for free of charge prescription drugs in March. "We are committed to helping patients, and that commitment is evident in the $140 million of financial assistance we provided in 2008," representative Shannon Altimari from drug producer Biogen says. Biogen Idec provides help for prescription medicine Avonex and Tysabri which is used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Pfizer announced a program earlier this year called Maintain that offers free of charge medicine to jobless Americans who could do with prescription drug help. Maintain is only one of numerous patient assistance programs that the company provides.
AstraZeneca just announced that it was altering its medication assistance program to supply aid sooner to individual people. The company's program provides free drugs or low-cost prescription medicine to uninsured, low-income individuals. AstraZeneca said in a statement that it "would immediately extend assistance to qualifying patients who have lost their jobs, had their incomes reduced or had a change in marital status or family size". The manufacturer said these types of individuals had been having problems qualifying for prescription medication since their tax returns showed too high an income. Qualifying Americans can at this point sign up by providing certification of their present pay and household size, AstraZeneca said.
Anthony Lewis is a patient that has experienced such troubles. The 50 -year-old insurance agent was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2000 . His income from social security and a lesser disability policy only just covers his mortgage, medical bills, and other living expenses. "I have tried all sorts of things to see if I can find prescription help," he states. He called the prescription companies, Social Security, and his healthcare provider's staff. He has as well followed more than a few leads on the Internet and at the end of the day found a company that would sort out all of the red tape for him.
His prescription medicine cost over $350 a month and his medical costs are more than $425 per month. "There were times when I have had to miss out taking my medicine for a day or two," he admits. He is not convinced what the future holds for him but at least nowadays he is getting the assistance with prescription drugs that he wants.
