Migraine Relief after 10 days ... for not working?

I am a 21 year old who has suffered migraines since I was 12. Usually one every week or every two weeks and will last 2 days. I've been in amitryptaline (sp) to reduce the number of migraine but decided the side effects worth the small comfort that he was receiving from the pills. I currently take 50 mg of Imitrex for migraine. In last two years my migraines have gotten worse and I've been experiencing 75% of the time, cluster headaches that do beat my eye so badly that I can not even try to sleep the monkey. In general, the Imitrex helps and I'll take 2 for all day and then you gone. However, I had an inside and outside of migraine since last Thursday .. status 10 days. I can barely function and I am a college student in my final year engineering student so can not take much longer. I really do not want to pay $ 100 co-pay to wait in the ER for 5 hours to get a shot. Any suggestions?

I used Midrin before and was extremely successful ... but really knocked me out. The relief was rapid, but within an hour I was very tired and needed to sleep off the drug. Fioricet worked well for the right of breakthrough pain in cluster above my eye, but the problem with using that you can not take all the time so it probably could use a persistent migraine. Both are drugs prescription and treatment options after the fact. I was taking Elavil for awhile, but had to stop due to side effects, too. I'm not sure how long it was taking, but presumably you have to take several weeks to start working as an inhibitor of migraine. Have you tried Wellbutrin? It is another preventive medicine. When you can, and if you can, you should try to find the cause of your migraines rather than seeking such treatment. It's expensive, but above all without insurance or high co-payment. For me, my lifestyle, high stress, along with physical inactivity, was one of the biggest factors in common migraine. Still I have headaches, and still have a migraine every month or two, but nothing like the 6.2 I used to get per month. If you can learn what the cause of these, and you know your triggers (sounds, smells, certain types of movement), can avoid many of their current migraine at least once with respect to reason underlying their migraines in the first place. Good luck, and hope to discover the underlying cause, or at least find a way to cope better.
